Brandon, Manitoba – Organizers of the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup are pleased to announce plans for a special Canadian Hockey League School Exhibit, to be featured in the Memorial Cup Village during next year’s Championship at Brandon’s Keystone Centre.
The exhibit will feature projects created by grades five and six classes from across southwestern Manitoba and will highlight all sixty teams in the CHL.
In addition to providing the public with valuable information on the many regions of Canada and the U.S., this project will include information on each team including famous team alumni, the history of the franchise, important and interesting statistics and records.
During the MasterCard Memorial Cup, scheduled from May 14-23rd, students and visitors to the event will get a chance to view these projects to learn more about the Canadian Hockey League and the different regions of Canada. Each display will be staffed by classes and students during the day, giving these young people an opportunity to be part of the Memorial Cup Village, which is expected to draw up to 6,000 participants.
These projects will be curriculum-based and represent the skills that students have learned throughout the 2009-10 school year.
Principals and teachers from many school divisions throughout the region recently received an invitation to participate in this exciting project.
Those classes, teachers interested in contributing to, and participating in the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup are encouraged to contact CHL School Exhibit Chairman Harvey Laluk (726-8200) or Memorial Cup Events Manager Lois MacDonald (729-2183).
The CHL School Exhibit became part of the MasterCard Memorial Cup in 2008 when the city of Kitchener served as host.
2010 will mark the first time that the province of Manitoba has hosted the Memorial Cup and the Wheat Kings will be making their fifth appearance in the Championship and their first since the 1996 event was held in Peterborough, Ontario.
