The Canadian Hockey League’s 100th Mastercard Memorial Cup celebrations continued this past week in Brandon, Manitoba, the sixth stop on a season long tour visiting 17 CHL communities in eight different provinces.

Brandon was the third of six scheduled stops in the Western Hockey League and only visit to the province of Manitoba.  The Wheat Kings hosted the 2010 Mastercard Memorial Cup where the trophy was rededicated to the memory of all fallen Canadian Military Personnel extending the tribute beyond simply the First World War.

On Thursday the Memorial Cup spent time at Brandon’s Regional Health Centre followed by stops at Rotary Villas, Victoria Landing, Fairview Personal Care, and Riverheights Terrace brightening the day for seniors in the community.

The Memorial Cup returned to CFB Shilo and the site of the 2010 re-dedication ceremony on Friday where Canadian Forces members and their families enjoyed it during a skate with Shilo Minor Hockey at Gunner Arena.  The trophy was later on display at Brandon Armouries before receiving a police escort in a LAV to Saturday’s game.

Sportsnet’s CHL Saturday Showcase began second half action in line with the tour where the Wheat Kings welcomed the WHL’s top ranked Moose Jaw Warriors.  The Memorial Cup was brought to centre ice by Master Warrant Officer Attrux and Sgt. Rogoski of CFB Shilo, with 2010 tournament Chairman Jeff Cristall and Event General Manager Lois MacDonald taking part in the ceremonial face-off.  The Canadian Military Wives Choir sang our national anthem, and Wheat Kings mascot Willie was chauffeured in an army jeep provided by the RCA Museum during intermission activities.  The Memorial Cup was later displayed on the concourse for fans at Westman Communications Group Place.
