#MMC100 Trophy Tour Stop 5: Moncton, New Brunswick

The Canadian Hockey League’s 100th Mastercard Memorial Cup celebrations continued this past week in Moncton, New Brunswick, the fifth stop on a season long tour visiting 17 CHL communities in eight different provinces.

This was the first of five scheduled stops in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League including three in the Maritimes.  The Moncton Wildcats hosted the 2006 Mastercard Memorial Cup and used the weekend’s festivities to announce their intent to bid the 2019 event next season.

Sportsnet’s CHL Saturday Showcase once again aligned with the Memorial Cup Tour as the Wildcats played host to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan who will welcome the tour on March 10.  The Memorial Cup was brought to centre ice by Canadian Forces members CPL Long and Trooper Michaud for a ceremonial face-off with MCPL Hadley and MCPL Tian.  The Memorial Cup was also on display in the concourse for fans, while local artist Katie Doiron painted a portrait of the prestigious trophy for auction which raised $1000 for the Poppy Fund.

Prior to Saturday’s game, the Wildcats along with Canadian Forces members brought the Memorial Cup for visits at Northrop Frye School, the Peter McKee Centre, George Dumont Hospital, Moncton Hospital, Dieppe Market, and the Dieppe Oval.

Next stop on the 100th Mastercard Memorial Cup Trophy Tour is Brandon, home of the Western Hockey League’s Wheat Kings on Saturday December 30.
