#MMC100 Trophy Tour Stop 13: Regina, Saskatchewan
The Canadian Hockey League’s 100th Mastercard Memorial Cup celebrations continued this past week in Regina, the 13th stop on a season long tour visiting 17 CHL communities in eight different provinces.
The City of Regina and the Western Hockey League’s Pats will play host to the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup with this weekend representing a 100 day countdown to the centennial celebration which takes places May 17-27 in the Queen City.
It was Homecoming Weekend for the Pats with events that included an Honours Gala, All-Star Celebrity Classic with WHL and NHL alumni, a shinny game with members of the Pats Alumni Association and Soldier On, plus a Rogers Hometown Hockey double-header beginning with a special Sunday edition of the CHL on Sportsnet featuring the Pats against their rival Moose Jaw Warriors.
Rogers Hometown Hockey provided several great CHL features including a profile of the Pats 100-year history and a closer look at what motivates captain Sam Steel. Hosts Ron MacLean and Tara Slone also welcomed Ed Staniowski to the set on Sunday evening to talk about his military career that followed his hockey playing days that began in Regina and included hoisting the Memorial Cup in 1974.
