#MMC100 Trophy Tour Stop 12: Edmonton, Alberta

Andy Devlin

The Canadian Hockey League’s 100th Mastercard Memorial Cup celebrations continued this past week in Edmonton, the 12th stop on a season long tour visiting 17 CHL communities in eight different provinces.

Edmonton was the second stop in the province of Alberta with Calgary previously hosting the festivities back in November.  The City of Champions is home of the Western Hockey League’s Edmonton Oil Kings who have celebrated three Mastercard Memorial Cup titles including 1963, 1966, and 2014.

Champions from two of those teams, coach Steve Hamilton (2014 Oil Kings), and his father Al Hamilton (1966 Oil Kings) accompanied the trophy on a special outing to Edmonton Garrison visiting men and women of service and providing them the opportunity to see the Memorial Cup.

The trophy then made its way to Rogers Place for Sportsnet’s Saturday Showcase game between the Oil Kings and the Red Deer Rebels where fans had a chance to pose for photos on the concourse.  Prior to the game, the Memorial Cup was brought to centre ice by members of the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry representing the 3rd Canadian Division Support Base Edmonton including Corporal Jeffrey Dollimore, Corporal Andrew Gallant, Corporal Shane Dowding, and Corporal Lee Mariani.
